OUR STUDENTS

Meet our most recent class of Field Academy students (Central Appalachia, 2016)!  Here are a few short bios from the students in their own words:

Kealie Hinchey
Abingdon, Virginia
Kealie Hinchey is from Abingdon, Virginia where she lives with her parents and her two brother and their 12 chickens. She is Captain of the Patrick Henry Swim Team, Vice President of The Drama Club, and Treasurer of the PH Class of 2017. She is an actress who hopes to be on Broadway someday. She acts at Barter Theatre. She loves making new friends and she can't wait to meet all of these people who she hopes to spend one of the best months of her life with.

Michelle Jaballas
Chicago, Illinois
I live in the suburbs with my mom, dad, my two sisters, and my dogs. I am a writer for literature and music, avideo-editor dweeb, and a shopper! In my free time I usually am writing or singing by myself, but during the summer I am usually taking videos and pictures and making a summer video. I love to cook dinner, I like hosting bonfires and eating s'mores, and there's nothing more in the world I'd rather do than travel around the world! This summer I look forward to meeting everyone, sharing cultures, and getting to learn new things about the Appalachian Mountains with people from all over the U.S.!

Sebastian Chavez
Los Angeles, California
Born and raised in the city of Angels lives with mom and dad. Sebastian goes to a school called Pilgrim. Sebastian loves playing soccer, running, talking and meeting new people, and messing around with his hair. Sebastian hopes to have an amazing life changing experience at the Field Academy and hopes to make a lot of new friends.

Kyra Higgins
Redfox, Kentucky
I have lived in Knott County all my life surrounded by mountains and hills. I love to draw, paint, and write. I like watching old black and white or silent films and enjoy walking. I can be a little shy at first, but once you get to know me you'll learn I like to talk. At the moment I am sheltering a tiny army of kittens that my cats had, there are nine kittens running around! I live with my sisters and brothers and mother.

Heidy Rompich
Central Falls, Rhode Island
My name is Heidy Rompich and I'm from Central Falls, Rhode Island. I am really excited to be able to participate in this program since it will be the first time I'll be on my own. I enjoy reading, listening to music and I'm a very curious person. A fun fact I guess is that I'm also a twin sister.

Nita Seciwa-Koons
Zuni, New Mexico
Hello, my name is Nita Seciwa-Koons. I come from the pueblo of Zuni. I was born on 12/19/2000, I am the oldest of two children. I like to travel, meet new people and learn new things. I am excited to go to the Field Academy because it will give me a wonderful experience in learning more about the environment and have that knowledge to bring it back to my community.
